Man arrested in connection with Hell Fire Club knife attack

A man in his 20s has been arrested in connection with the Hell Fire Club attack which left three people hospitalised.

The man was picked up by Gardai last night in the Tallaght area.

Meanwhile, the three teens injured in the attack, a young woman and two young men, have been discharged from hospital.

The incident happened at the well-known ruin on Montpellier Hill in Rathfarnham yesterday afternoon at approximately 3.45pm.

It was initially reported that two youths were injured but it has emerged today that three teens were taken to Tallaght Hospital, two with knife wounds and one with injuries consistent with an assault.

While it is unclear exactly what led up to the incident Gardai are working on one theory that two separate groups had been camping at the ancient site with its views over the city.

The groups mixed for a while but then a row developed and the attack took place as the row got heated, according to sources.

The victims and the arrested man are from different parts of Tallaght.

The scene was preserved for a technical examination and a search of the area was conducted by the DMR South Divisional search team.
