Man arrested for 'drink driving' after boy dies in road collision
Gardai have launched an investigation after a 13-year-old boy died following a road crash this morning.
It is believed that the young teen was a passenger in a car that was involved in a single car which collided with a ditch at at 6.40am.
The youth and an adult male walked away from the crash where they were picked up by a passerby.
Gardaí confirmed that the boy "deteriorated and he died on route to Loughlinstown Hospital". He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The male driver of the car, in his 30’s, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and brought to Wicklow Garda Station. He is scheduled to appear before Bray District Court this afternoon at 2pm.
The road between Roundwood and Annamoe is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision investigators and local diversions are in place.
Gardaí in Roundwood are investigating the incident.
Officers have appealed to anyone who travelled this road prior to 6.40am this morning in either direction and who may have seen the collision or observed or passed the two males walking the road to contact the Gardai at Wicklow on 0404 – 60140, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
