Gardai investigating a terrifying knife robbery at a service station in Wicklow last night arrested a man.

Officers in Arklow are investigating the robbery, which occurred at a service station on the Dublin Road at approximately 5pm yesterday.

A lone male wearing a mask entered the premises armed with what is believed to be a knife. While inside he threatened staff and demanded cash.

The raider then left the service station in the direction of Briggs Lane, Arklow.

Gardaí were alerted, and in a follow up search a man in his 20’s was arrested in connection with the robbery.

He was detained at Arklow Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 – Criminal Justice Act 1984.

All the cash has been recovered, Gardai said.

The man was released from custody last night and a file will now be prepared for the information of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Investigations are continuing.
