Man arrested after firearm discovered in Dublin

Gardai have arrested a man in his 20s following the discovery of a firearm in the south city area of Dublin.

A 24-year-old man was arrested last night in Crumlin, shortly after 9pm,when a firearm was found in the vehicle he was driving.

Detective gardai stopped and searched a car and its occupant close to Old County Road, Dublin 12.

The authorities discovered both a firearm and ammunition.

The man was arrested at scene.

The arrest occurred as part of a garda operation targeting organised criminal gangs in the Crumlin area.

The man is currently detained at Sundrive Road garda station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939 as amended.
