At 11pm on Sunday night a man was beaten with a plank of wood as he walked home from St Patrick’s GAA club in Limerick.

The man had been enjoying a children’s Halloween party with his wife and daughter before the incident occurred.

He was reportedly attacked from behind by two individuals, with one of them repeatedly striking him with a wooden plank.

Reports indicate that the victim attempted to defend himself when a man “jumped him”, but was later “grabbed from behind in a headlock” by another individual. It is alleged that the first man briefly left the scene, returned “with a plank and started beating him”.

The victim and his family are said to be in a state of shock following the incident.

A meeting is being held at St Patrick’s GAA club tonight, where members of the community will liaise with county councillors to implement safety measures at the club.

The man has chosen to remain anonymous while the garda investigation is ongoing.

It is believed that the two attackers are in their late teens/early twenties.
