The target of Dublin's latest shooting is a former associate of two murdered brothers who were involved in a deadly feud with a rival gang.

David King (31) was hospitalised after being shot at an address in Cherry Orchard Court, Ballyfermot, on Saturday night.

A gunman dressed in dark clothes approached him at approximately 8.20pm and fired a number of shots.

Despite up to four shots being discharged, King was struck only once in the arm before the assailant fled. Gardaí rushed to the scene and the Garda Air Support Unit was deployed as the victim was transferred to St James's Hospital.

He was yesterday being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

David King was once associated with Paul and Kenneth Corbally, two violent criminals from the Ballyfermot area who were involved in a deadly feud with a gang led by

Derek 'Dee Dee' O'Driscoll. The two brothers were shot dead in June 2010.

The feud began following a street brawl outside a Ballyfermot pub, which left one man dead and several other people seriously injured.

Jason Martin later died from injuries sustained during a fight with men armed with hatchets.

King was charged in relation to this incident while notorious criminal Derek O'Driscoll received an 18-month prison term for public order offences.

Neither man was involved in the part of the fight which led to the death of Martin.

Detectives from Ballyfermot garda station are investigating Saturday night's shooting, and are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

No arrests have yet been made and gardaí are investigating a number of lines of inquiry.

A number of tit-for-tat shootings and attacks have been carried out in the west Dublin suburb in the last 12 months, which have mainly involved young criminals from the area.

Gardaí are attempting to establish if these incidents are linked to the shooting of David King.

It is the second gun attack in the Cherry Orchard Court estate this year. In May, convicted armed robber Keith Murtagh (34) was injured after a gunman fired at a house in the estate.

It is suspected that Murtagh, who is an associate of the Hutch gang, was targeted on behalf of the Kinahan cartel.

A female associate of the criminal was also injured during the shooting, but both escaped with relatively minor injuries.
