Knifemen threaten taxi driver with 'sexual assault' during horror ordeal

A taxi driver is recovering after a horrific ordeal in which two men threatened him at knifepoint in his own car and told him he would be sexually assaulted.

The driver, based in Dundalk, was ordered by the pair to drive the 20 kilometres to Cullyhanna in South Armagh.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of Tuesday morning, at approximately 12.15am, The Argus reports.

The 44-year-old driver picked up the two men in his Skoda Octavia on Park Street following a call to the cab office in the town.

They initially requested the driver go to Cox's Demesne but then offered him money up front to go to Cullyhanna.

The men produced a knife and screwdriver and threatened that he would be sexually assaulted when he arrived in South Armagh.

Desperate to draw attention to himself and the situation, the driver stopped in the middle of the road.

It is understood a passing car did slow down at the scene before driving off.

The men stole a small amount of money from the driver, before fleeing the scene.
