An associate of senior Kinahan Cartel members, Sean McGovern, is on the run amid a fresh plot to kill him by the Hutch gang.

McGovern, who was shot in the Regency Hotel attack which claimed the life of his best friend David Byrne, hasn’t been seen in some time, with one source claiming that: “There’s no sign of McGovern and it looks as if the pressure could be getting to him.

Reports indicate that gardai received intelligence that McGovern had gone on the run over the latest murder plot against him.

30-year-old McGovern was arrested in Manchester in 2012 alongside David Byrne's brother Liam and Fat Freddie Thompson's cousin Liam Roe for threatening a businessman.

The trio were charged in the UK with making death threats, blackmail and possession of housebreaking implements.

The three men were held after threatening to “cut up” an innocent man. After calling to his house and being told he was not at home they rang his mobile phone and demanded money from him.

He said that he wouldn’t pay and said he would call the police. He was then told if he didn’t cough up they would “cut him up”.

The man dialled 999.

The trio were arrested close to the scene and taken in for questioning on suspicion of making threats to kill.

McGovern was shot in the leg by hitmen at the official weigh-in for 'Clash of the Clans' Show at the Regency hotel last February.
