A generation is being lost to the gangland feud as young children re-enact the Regency Hotel shooting, a crime forum was told last night.

The event to address criminality in the capital was organised by Lord Mayor Brendan Carr and chaired by RTÉ Radio host Joe Duffy,

It was attended by senior gardaí, youth workers and citizens of Dublin communities.

A key discussion at the event at City Hall was the issue surrounding the ongoing gangland feud, as well as intimidation suffered by families.

One local youth worker from the north-inner city revealed how children were acting out the Regency Hotel shooting which saw David Byrne (33) shot dead.

"Criminality is endemic in the north inner city. We have 10-year-olds now acting out the Regency Hotel shooting. Children saying 'Right, you take the glock, you take the AK and you drive the car'. These are young children," he added.
