Investigation launched into death of soldier at Limerick barracks
An investigation is underway into the sudden death of a young soldier after he was discovered in an unresponsive state in an army barracks.
The 23-year-old was found at approximately 1.20pm on Thursday in his bed at Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick.
He was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Limerick where he later died.
Independent.ie has learned that the young man, from Co Cork, had recently completed his two-star training course.
He was stationed with the 12th battalion in Limerick city.
The death is not being treated as suspicious. An investigation will be carried out for the purposes of the coroner.
A Defence Forces spokesman confirmed that they are aware of the incident and they are currently in contact with the young soldier's family.
He will be buried with full military hours.
