Hunt on for Garda impersonators who robbed and assaulted woman

Two men are wanted for questioning over a robbery and assault in which the individuals falsely purported to be Gardai.

Gardai in Wexford are appealing for witnesses to a robbery that occurred at Corramacorra Junction, Murrintown, off the R733, this morning at approximately 6.25am.

A woman who was driving to work was stopped by what was described as a dark-coloured older-type Ford Mondeo car that gave the impression of being a garda car by the use of a blue flashing light. However, the vehicle was not a garda car.

She was then approached by a male impersonating a garda who proceeded to threaten the woman and take a sum of money.

The woman was assaulted by the male during the incident and required hospital treatment at Wexford General Hospital.

The male left the scene in the dark coloured Mondeo car which was driven by a second male in the direction of Murrintown.

Gardai have launched an appeal for witnesses that may have seen a car fitting this description in and around the area this morning.

Anyone that may be able to assist the gardai with this investigation should contact Wexford garda station on 053-9165200, the Garda Confidential telephone line on 1800 666 111 or any garda station.
