Sacristan greeted by "overpowering" smell of wee after holy water font used as urinal
IT isn’t clear whether it was someone who was caught short or it was an act of vandalism.
But someone urinated in the holy water font at Rowe Street Church in Wexford on Tuesday night, leaving the sacristan with the very unpalatable job of scrubbing out the font with disinfectant on Wednesday morning
Gardai have been called in to investigate and there’s a hope that whomever was caught short was caught on CCTV.
Fr Michael O’Shea said the sacristan had told him that the smell was overpowering when he opened the doors to the church on Wednesday morning.
‘It’s a public health issue, so he had to wash and disinfect the font and I informed the gardai,’ said the priest.
‘I will be bringing it up at the next meeting of the parish council,’ he said, suggesting that more CCTV cameras may prevent any repeat performance, ‘we have to come up with a solution.’
Fr O’Shea said the font had never been used as a urinal before, but some time ago someone was caught after defecating around the church grounds
