Officers discovered he was midway through removing the window

A HIGH LEVEL probe is underway in Cloverhill Prison after officers discovered a former special forces war vet planning a prison escape.

The 42-year-old veteran of the Bosnian conflict, who previously served four years in prison after being caught smuggling €80,000 worth of cannabis into the State, was rumbled mid-way through the attempt while in his cell this week.

When officers searched the Polish inmate’s cell they discovered he was midway through removing the window.

He cannot be identified as he is currently before the courts on separate charges.

A forensic search of the cell later uncovered a number of plans and lists associated with two separate escape routes.

A source revealed: “The information included a list of safe-houses and escape routes.”
