Hatchet wielding gunman in balaclava botches Post Office raid

At approximately 10:30am this morning a man wearing a balaclava and carrying a hatchet and what is believed to be a gun entered the Post Office in Rush, Co Dublin.

The individual threatened staff and demanded money but did not gain entry to the secure area.

Nothing was stolen and he fled from the post office, making his getaway in a red Ford Fiesta.

Gardai lateri stopped a red Ford Fiesta on the M1 and arrested a 30-year-old man who is currently being detained at Balbriggan Garda station under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

During a search of the red Ford Fiesta a firearm and hatchet were recovered.
