A 14-year-old girl has appeared in court in connection with an assault which was captured on a mobile phone.

Footage of the sustained attack went viral on social media when it emerged last week.

Attired in her school uniform, the girl is seen in the video dragging out of the boy before punching him a number of times.

The two-minute long clip, which was shot on a mobile phone, has been viewed nearly 3 million times on Facebook since it was uploaded on May 14.

Appearing in court yesterday, the girl wept and hugged her parents as she was sentenced for the attack.

Croydon Youth Court heard how she had been on a youth rehabilitation order for previous offences including grievous bodily harm and intimidating a witness when she was filmed shouting abuse and hitting a ‘vulnerable’ 14-year-old boy, MailOnline reports.

After the clip emerged she was visited at her home by police and arrested in connection with the incident.

The court heard the budding beautician had been undergoing anger management therapy as part of her previous rehabilitation order. She says she suffered backlash from the video and has been intimidated in public.

However, magistrate Ken Ashken told her: "This was an extremely unpleasant assault on a vulnerable 14-year-old who did not seek to respond in any way.

"Despite your young age and the undoubtedly good sides that you have within you, the offence is so serious, in regards to your previous offending, that a custodial sentence is justifiable."

At her sentencing yesterday she was given eight months’ detention in total for the assault and for breaching the rehabilitation order.
