Gardaí attached to the Special Crime Task Force of the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau made the seizure last night.

Gardai have confirmed they carried out a targeted search operation in the Botanic Avenue area of Dublin yesterday evening.

During this search operation a hand gun and ammunition, subject to ballistic examination, were located and seized.

No arrests have been made at this time and investigations are ongoing.

The seizure comes after a week of major operations by gardai.

Earlier this week a submachine gun was seized in a raid on a Dublin property in Castleknock.

On Thursday, Gardai seized an Audi A3 car, €30,000 worth of jewellery including a Rolex watch, €7,000 in cash, and drugs worth €3,000 during raids in the capital's south-inner city.

And over the course of the week almost €2m of drugs has been seized in a series of operations in the capital, Louth and Meath.
