Gardai seize large quantity of heroin after stopping car

A significant quantity of heroin was seized by gardai during an intelligence-led operation last night in Co Westmeath.

Gardai seized heroin and arrested one male last night in Co Westmeath, as part of  an ongoing intelligence-led operation.

At around 7.30pm last night, gardai from the Westmeath Divisional Drug Unit stopped a car near Kinnegad, Co Westmeath.

The male driver (35), who was the sole occupant, was arrested and brought to Mullingar garda station.

Heroin (pending analysis) with an estimated street value of up to €45,000 was seized.

The man is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking Act) 1996 at Mullingar garda station.
