Gardaí from the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau supported by National Units, including the Emergency Response Unit, carried out an operation in Rathoath this evening that has resulted in a weapons seizure and a number of arrests.

Gardai seized two handguns, two AK47s and a hundred rounds of ammunition and three men were also arrested.

Two assault rifles and several hundred rounds of ammunition were seized when Gardaí stopped two vehicles in the Ratoath area.

In a follow up phase of the operation two semi automatic pistols, silencers and further quantities of ammunition were discovered as part of the operation also in Ratoath.

Three males (30s) have been arrested and are currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences against the State Act, 1939 at Ashbourne and Kells Garda Stations.

Last night Noel 'Kingsize' Duggan was shot and killed outside his home in Rathoath.

Duggan, a close friend of Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch, was gunned down in the driveway of his house in the Old Mill estate in the town.

Earlier today Gardai said that a man dressed in dark clothing was seen running from the driveway across a green towards Millview apartments, located on the Fairyhouse Road.

Two cars suspected of being involved in the shooting were also found burnt out nearby.
