Man convicted of sexually assaulting teen on the run in Ireland

Gardai are seeking the assistance of the public in tracing the whereabouts of a man wanted in the UK for the sexual assault of a teenager.

Following a request from authorities in the UK, gardai are hunting for a 19-year-old man who was last seen in the Limerick area. 

Gardai at Henry Street Station are seeking to locate the whereabouts of Mian Mujahid Ali Shahid, commonly known as Mian Shahid, following a request for assistance from UK police. 

Following the receipt of a European arrest warrant Gardai have carried out extensive enquires but have failed to establish his current whereabouts. 

It is believed Mian, who is a Pakistani national, travelled to Ireland from Scotland earlier this year.
 
He had lived temporarily in Scotland and was last seen in the Foynes areas of Limerick 11 August. 
 
Shahid was convicted in his absence at Stafford Crown Court of two counts of sexual assault of an 18-year-old girl.
 
A warrant was issued for his arrest in April of this year after he failed to show up for court. In May he was convicted in his absence and sentenced to 30 months in jail for the sexual assaults. 
 
Gardai believe he is still in Ireland and are continuing to liaise closely with authorities in the UK and Scotland.
 
Shahid is being ured to contact Gardai as he is subject to the reporting provisions of the Sex Offenders Act 2001 in Ireland. 
 
Gardai are appealing to the driver of a car in which Shahid was observed as a passenger travelling in the Foynes areas to contact Gardai.They are also appealing to anyone with information about the movement of Shahid in Ireland and in particular his current whereabouts to contact Gardai.
