Gardai have confirmed that the are conducting a fresh search for Ciara Breen, who vanished 18 years ago

Lands in the Dundalk area will be searched today and a full press briefing will be given by the Gardai this afternoon.

The news comes after some recent developments in this cold case.

Ciara Breen disappeared on February 13, 1997. The then 17-year-old left her house to meet someone and was never seen again.

Back in April Gardai arrested and released a man about the disappearance and in November 2014 Gardai interviewed two possible witnesses from the night of her disappearance.

The disappearance also featured on an edition of RTE's Crimecall in December 2014 after an anonymous letter was sent to Gardai. On the show Ciara's mother Bernadette pleaded with the writer to come forward.

“I had one, just one little girl – my heart, my soul, my world – and just like that she was gone," she said.

“If anything comes out of this I would like whoever has the information we need for Ciara to give it.

“Please, please don’t let her lie out there on her own anymore, let her come home.”
