Gardai make arrest after armed robbery in Dublin

Gardai have arrested a man after an armed robbery at a bookies in Rialto this afternoon.

At approximately 1.05pm today a man entered a premises on South Circular Road, Rialto armed with what was believed to be a hand gun.

He threatened staff and demanded cash. The man was wearing a black jacket, blue tracksuit bottoms with a grey stripe down the legs and blue runners.

His face was covered in a white cloth type of clothing.
 
He stole a sum of cash and was observed leaving the shop, turning right and then taking the second right down New Ireland Road. 

Gardaí from Kevin St Detective Unit, local units and members of the Divisional Crime Task Force responded to the call and began a search of the Dry Dock area off New Ireland Road, where they observed a man run into the bushes.

This man was subsequently arrested and brought to Kilmainham Garda station where he is currently detained under the provisions section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.

During a search of the area a firearm and a sum of money was recovered.
