Gardai launch murder probe after man's body found in city apartment

Gardai in Waterford have launched a murder investigation after a man's body was found in an apartment in the city.

Yesterday the body was discovered and gardai said they were treating the man's death as 'suspicious'.

This afternoon they upgraded their probe to a murder investigation.

According to gardai the body of 48 year Abdi Rasheed Kaaheen Shire was discovered in an apartment on Wellington Street at approximately 9.20am yesterday.

Gardai have confirmed that a post mortem examination has been completed but for operational reasons they are not releasing details to the public.

The deceased is a Somali National and had lived in the Waterford area.

Gardaí are appealing for information, in particular they are appealing to members of the local and extended Somali community who may be in a position to assist with this investigation, to contact the Gardaí at Waterford on 051- 305300, the Garda Confidential Line 1 800 666 111 or any Garda Station.
