Gardai are hunting for a gangster who pulled a gun on security staff before escaping with €50,000 in the latest armed cash-in-transit robbery in the city.

A Blue Ford Transit Connect van then pulled up beside the GSLS vehicle and a man jumped out of the van and produced a shotgun.

He threatened staff and grabbed the cash box, which was to be used for the bank's ATM, and then got back in the van. The raiders fled from the scene in the van, which was later located by gardai at the nearby Glasnevin Downs estate.

A garda spokesman told the Herald that there are no descriptions of the criminals involved in the latest cash-in-transit heist.

Finglas gardai are investigating the €50,000 robbery, but no arrests have yet been made in the case.

This is the latest cash-in-transit robbery to happen in north Dublin.

Officers are also probing a robbery in Charlestown Shopping Centre last month when a sum of around €50,000 was taken when staff from security company G4S were targeted as they attempted to fill an ATM with cash.

In late January, €190,000 was stolen at Blanchardstown Shopping Centre when two men armed with a handgun and hammer threatened to kill two security employees in an underground car park as they brought money to an ATM.

The Herald previously revealed that a major gang boss is being investigated for these raids.

The mob, led by a Traveller crime kingpin, are also the chief suspects for a robbery in December when two criminals used a fake cash-in-transit van to make off with more than €60,000 from a Dublin cash-and-carry before they crashed the vehicle and set it on fire.

The pair duped staff by pretending to be employees of the G4S security company.

CCTV of the raid in Merrywell Business Park

The incident happened at around 2.30pm on Monday, December 7, at the Merrywell Business Park in the Ballymount Industrial Estate.

There have been no arrests in any of these robberies so far.
