Gardai appeal for information about masked hit squad following botched attack
Gardai have issued a fresh appeal for witnesses to a shooting at a shopping centre last night where a young child narrowly escaped injury or worse.
The shocking attack in a car park of Charlestown Shopping centre, Finglas at 6.15pm.
Gardaí at Finglas Garda Station investigating the botched attack have revealed that a man wearing a balaclava fired a number of shots before escaping in a Volkswagen Golf - driven by another man.
A spokesman said: "A man discharged a firearm a number of times before fleeing the scene as a passenger in a silver coloured Volkswagen Golf, registration number 02 MH 7775.
"This car was later located burnt out, at Shancastle Estate, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 and has been removed for technical examination."
Sources have revealed that the gunman missed his intended target and the bullets hit a car with an infant inside.
It is suspected the shooting was not linked to the ongoing Kinahan-Hutch feud, but it is believed that it may be linked Crumlin-Drimnagh feud that has claimed 15 lives.
It is understood that the target, believed to be from Tallaght, may be involved in a dispute with a well-known gangster.
Local TD Noel Rock (FG) condemned the incident and called for more action to tackle gangland crime.
"A Friday night at a shopping centre shows there is a clear seeping of gangland crime into the everyday lives of families.
"The fact that these shots narrowly missed a young child shows the real danger posed by these thugs.
"I have to call on the Minister for Justice to take a far more robust stance on this matter."
Gardai have appealed for witnesses.
"Anyone who was in and around the Charlestown Shopping Centre or the car park of the food outlets [yesterday evening] and who may have seen anything unusual is asked to contact gardai."
