Gardaí are assisting the PSNI in its search for three armed men following a shooting at a Fermanagh hotel on Tuesday morning.

The three men entered a hotel on the Main Street in Belleek shortly before 9:30am and fired one shot into a van belonging to a contractor working at the hotel.

The PSNI has reported there were no injuries as a result of the shooting incident but that those present were shaken.

The three men, who were wearing balaclavas at the time of the shooting, left in the direction of the border with the Republic.

PSNI Chief Inspector Graham Dodds appealed to the public for any information, saying: “I would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area or anyone who has any information about this incident to contact Police at Enniskillen on the non-emergency 101 number, quoting reference number 272 02/07/16.

“Alternatively, if you would prefer to provide information without giving details, please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said they could not comment on contact between the two organisations.

Ulster Unionist Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP Tom Elliott condemned the attack.

Mr Elliott said: “l am shocked to learn that armed and masked men appeared on Belleek Main Street this morning, discharged a firearm and fled across the border.

“Belleek is a quiet Fermanagh border village and this incident will have come as a complete shock to the local community. It is a reminder that we are still plagued by those who are intent on murder, attempted murder and disruption, and of dark days which we all want to put behind us."

The hotel has not responded to our request for a comment.
