Garda who sent hoax bomb to superintendent is suspended
A garda who sent his boss a hoax bomb “as a joke” has been suspended.
The suspect device was left in the post at Sligo Garda Station for Supt Mary Murray.
Reports indicate that the device, which was made with batteries and wires, was delivered to the superintendent’s office.
The Sligo Champion reports that the officer involved owned up to the prank and apologised.
However an internal investigation was launched and the garda was interviewed by a superintendent from outside the Sligo/Leitrim area.
Sources say that there are no plans at this stage to launch a criminal investigation.
"The garda has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the internal investigation," said one source.
"It appears the garda thought this was a good joke and didn't expect it to go any further."
