Garda “didn’t pass on evidence in rape investigation”

A female garda is under investigation after she allegedly failed to properly investigate a rape claim against a sex criminal.

The Irish Daily Mail reports that this is the second internal inquiry the garda has faced over her actions during a serious criminal investigation.

Reports indicate that the garda took a statement from a man accused of rape but failed to pass it on to the investigation team at a separate station.

The rape accused was later found guilty of sex offences.

The Mail reports that the garda defended herself at the Garda Board of Inquiry after allegations were made against her under the Garda Siochana (Discipline) Regulations for Neglect of Duty.

The board will report on its findings in the coming weeks and will reveal what punishment she could face if found to have acted wrongly.

The garda is currently suspended from the force, pending the enquiry’s findings.
