Gang attack in Dublin leaves student needing metal plates in face
An American student needed three metal plates inserted into his face after being subjected to a vicious attack in Dublin city centre.
The assault happened in the early hours outside the Net Print cafe near the Ambassador Theatre as the man was returning to his apartment with his female roommate.
He confronted a man who was urinating on the front door of his property before he was attacked.
The assault took place at about 3.10am on Sunday, May 28, and resulted in the victim suffering a broken eye socket and severe bruising.
The student, who asked not to be named, told the Herald that three males were involved in the assault.
"I was returning from a night out with my roommate to our apartment," he said.
"When I got to the apartment, I saw a man urinating on my door.
"I went ahead and reacted by saying to the guy, 'This is my apartment, what are you doing?'
"He then punched me, and two people who were with him came up and attacked me as well. They began kicking me while I was on the floor - my face took most of the damage.
"Then they ran off. I had to have a brain scan and get surgery to insert metal plates.
"The gardai investigating the attack will hopefully the catch those responsible."
