Four children hospitalised after suspected attempted strangling in Wicklow house

A 35-year-old father has been arrested following the hospitalisation of four of his children, in a suspected case of strangling in Co Wicklow.

The four children who were subject to the shocking assault are said to be recovering well in hospital.

The four consists of two boys and two girls, with ages ranging from three years old to 11 years old.

It is understood that their mother was not home when the incident occured.

A senior source told Independent.ie: "The children in this case have all made an excellent recovery.

"Staff at the hospital are hoping to release them this evening.

"Physically they are in a good condition but how this will impact on them psychologically is a matter for another time."


Gardai have arrested a 35-year-old man, in connection with an investigation into the serious assault of four children.

The incident occurred at Blainroe, Co Wicklow, shortly after 7.30pm last night.

Gardai and Emergency Services attended the scene after the four children were discovered, in a house in a serious condition. 

All four children were taken to Tallaght Hospital, with two requiring an airlift to the medical facility.

The man in question was arrested a short time later.

He is currently detained at Wicklow garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

The scene is preserved for technical examination.
