An operation targeting IRA activity in Dublin saw five suspected members of the dissident republican group arrested on the weekend.

The operation, which was led by Special Detective Unit, Emergency Response Unit and Crime and Security Branch, took four men and one woman into custody on Saturday afternoon in the Dublin 15 area.

All persons (ages ranging from late 60s to early 40s) were arrested under Section 30, Offences Against the State Act, 1939/1998 and detained at a number of Garda stations in Dublin Region.

Three of those arrested have addresses in Belfast, Northern Ireland.  The five arrested persons will appear at a special sitting of the Special Criminal Court, this afternoon, to be charged in relation to this investigation.

An Garda Siochana will continue to liaise closely with the Police Service of Northern Ireland in relation to this investigation.
