Firecrackers cause security scare in Dublin’s North inner city

Firecrackers and bangers being set of in Dublin’s north inner city prompted a security alert this lunchtime.

Armed gardai were sent to the scene after a number of loud bangs were heard by local residents.

Upon arrival officers found a number of smouldering fireworks.

Gardai are on high alert in the area due to the ongoing Hutch-Kinahan gangland war.

The north inner city has been the scene of four murders since February’s attack at the Regency Hotel.

Gareth Hutch, Eddie Hutch Snr, Michael Barr and Martin O'Rourke were all shot dead by assassins in the Dublin 1 area.
