A high profile female solictor has been arrested by a high profile Garda unit for smuggling a mobile phone to a notorious rapist in prison.

The solicitor has admitted to the offence, according to the Daily Mail.

The woman was questioned by police after the offender 'ratted her out' when he was caught with the phone.

Staff from the prison contacted the Gardaí and they found that there was a 'definitive technological link' from the phone to the solicitor.

The woman 'held up her hands' when quizzed by officers from the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI) and said that she did indeed pass on the phone.

Sources say the case was referred to the NBCI due to the 'sensitive nature' of the investigation.

The woman is believed to be 'taking a break' from the legal profession as a file will be sent to the DPP.

Insiders say that there is 'little doubt' she will face criminal charges and may face up to five years in prison if convicted.
