A Wexford man who was convicted of killing his own brother is on the run.

Martin Conners absconded from Shelton Abbey open prison in Wicklow on the 29th of April and remains at large.

Reports indicate that the 24-year-old was almost captured by gardai, but managed to escape through a series of fields in the Barntown area of Wexford.

It is believed that Connors may be staying with close associates in the South-West Dublin area.

Connors was jailed for three years, with the final 12 months suspended, last year after he was convicted of the manslaughter of his brother Michael Connors.

Martin got involved in an altercation in Wexford Town in July 2011 where his 21-year-old brother Michael died as a result of an exchange of blows.

Connors' mother Sally and sister Margaret were convicted of attempting to impede his prosecution.

A Prison Service Spokesman confirmed that Connors had absconded and that gardai have been notified.
