Child struck by shotgun pellet in shooting that left man critical

An 11-year-old boy has been hit by a stray shotgun pellet in a shooting that left a man in hospital fighting for his life.

The child, who was with his parents when he was injured, was struck in the cheek in Loxford Lane, Ilford, east London yesterday afternoon.

Scotland Yard said the shooting left a 22-year-old man, who does not know the boy or his family, in a critical condition. The 11-year-old was taken to hospital to have the pellet removed and has since been discharged.

According to the Evening Standard, a fight broke out between two men in a shop opposite Loxford Park and one shot the other.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Moring said: "This shooting has left a man in a critical condition and endangered an innocent child.

"We would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information to contact police immediately. Your call will be treated in complete confidence."
