A man who was caught on camera trying to break into the family home of a jailed gangster has been described as "having a death wish".

CCTV images show the man outside the heavily-fortified house of jailed criminal David Waldron on Ratoath Road, Cabra, where it is alleged he smashed cameras with a screwdriver and tried to break in.

Convicted drug dealer Waldron has been in prison since last March when he and three other men were jailed for a savage assault on a man who had shown up at the house, where his wife and four children live, in 2013.

The CCTV images of the attempted burglary were posted on Facebook.

Gardai are aware of the incident, but no one has been arrested and the suspect has not yet been identified.

The incident happened at 8.55pm on Tuesday of last week, and sources said the would-be burglar could face serious consequences if he is identified by Waldron's associates.

"The individual that did this must have a death wish or something. This was not a very smart thing to do," a source said.
