Brother of murdered mobster living the high life despite garda warrant

THIS is the brother of murdered mobster David Byrne living the high life in Spain – despite the fact there is a warrant out for his arrest in Ireland.

James Byrne has landed a new girlfriend and a new penchant for the good life as his family begin a fight against the Criminal Assets Bureau for their homes.

Last year Byrne was photographed shouting at officers during raids on his family’s Raleigh Square properties in Crumlin and later when he was forcibly removed from Dublin Airport as he tried to board a flight.

Now he hasn’t a care in the world as he kicks back and enjoys the Spanish sun and a lifestyle few can only dream of.

The 40-year-old, who has struggled with drug addiction, has decided to put his troubled past behind him and enjoy himself while he can with a new girlfriend and a new life on the Costa del Crime.

Our photographs show him enjoying the Mediterranean sun with a blonde beauty as he frolics on a jet-ski and sips champagne.

In one posting at a wedding she quips “he’s a keeper all right”, as her friends tease her that she and James may be next.

A warrant was issued for Byrne in Ireland in the past few months for non-payment of fines and a court was told he was having treatment in Spain.

The Sunday World understands that following the murder of brother David at the Regency Hotel in February 2016, fragile James went to pieces and found it increasingly difficult to cope.

He was removed from Raleigh Square in March 2016 after he abused gardaí involved in the high-profile raid on the homes of his parents, ‘Jaws’ and Sadie Byrne, and his brother Liam’s property just doors away.

He later tried to board a flight to Spain, but was refused after he became abusive with airline staff and gardaí were called to remove him from Dublin airport.

Some weeks later brother Liam organised for him to travel to Spain again, where he checked him into a pricey relaxation centre.

James is not involved with the Kinahan Cartel outfit, but friends say he has a penchant for sampling the drugs that have made his family very wealthy.

He is also a fan of the lifestyle that goes with the mob’s money. James is the eldest of the Byrne’s three sons, while brother Liam is the top target in a €100 million crackdown on organised crime.

It is understood that CAB has prepared cases to seize the homes of Liam Byrne, his father James ‘Jaws’ Byrne and that of his business partner Sean McGovern – who lives with his partner Anita Freeman on nearby Windmill Park.

Next month the courts will hear submissions from a number of parties being targeted by the CAB who are looking for free legal aid including Jaws and family matriarch Sadie Byrne.
