A 25-year-old man has died following an early morning knife attack on Kennelsfort Road in Palmerstown.

The incident erupted after an alleged row at a Traveller wedding.

The victim and another man were rushed to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown where one of the men later died.

The extent of the injuries suffered by the second man are not known.

The Herald reports a local source as saying that the fight started in a B&B which was occupied by members of the Travelling Community.

“Some of them were at a wedding yesterday somewhere outside Dublin, but they came back to the B&B afterwards and that’s when the trouble flared,” they said today.

The crime scene was littered with bloodstained clothing and towels this morning and it was obvious that the situation presented the emergency services with a challenge.

Gardaí are still trying to establish the facts, but it appears that a melee broke out among a number of people.

Weapons were used and a number of people were injured.

Gardaí say they want to interview as many as 70 people in connection with the attack.

A man in his mid-30s was arrested at the scene and is currently detained at Ballyfermot Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.
