Gardai investigating armed robbery and kidnapping incident

Gardai are investigating an armed robbery which took place at approximately 9pm on the 14th of April.

Two knife wielding thugs, with their faces hidden behind balaclavas, burst into a service station on the Kilkenny Road in Athy, Co Kildare.

They threatened staff before forcing them into a back room where they demanded money.

The raiders were unable to open the safe, so instead kidnapped a member of staff, who they held hostage.

The men told a second staff member to bring them the cash from the safe and meet them a short distance from the scene.

The second staff member brought the contents of the safe to the armed brutes who were waiting on the Kilkenny Road in Athy between the Top Garage and Loughman’s Garage

The kidnapped staff member was released unharmed and gardaí were then contacted.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have:

1. Seen a car acting suspiciously around the service station on the evening of the 14th at around 9pm.

2. Who may have seen suspicious activity on the Kilkenny Road in Athy between the Top Garage and Loughman’s Garage at around 9pm.

3 Gardaí believe that the suspects were driving a Mazda 323F.
