The man who was arrested by gardai this afternoon in connection with the murder of David Byrne is an associate of Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch.

The man, in his mid-50s, is detained at Raheny Garda Station under Section 50 of The Criminal Justice Act. 2007.

The brings to four the number of people who have been arrested as part of this murder investigation.

Last night, a father and son were arrested by gardai investigating the murder. The son was arrested by gardaí in Dublin Airport as he attempted to leave the country.

The 38-year-old man was issued a warning by gardaí that his life was under serious threat last weekend. The man was issued with a Garda Information Message - known as a GIM form.

It is understood gardaí consider the threat as "very serious and credible".

It is understood the threat is coming from members of the Kinahan cartel who are embroiled in a deadly feud with associates of the murdered Gary Hutch. The gangland feud has claimed the lives of six people so far.

Earlier this year, armed gardaí staged a high-profile raid on the 38-year-old man's north Dublin home.

The property was searched for firearms and explosives by the Special Detective Unit over 24 hours last month under a garda warrant.

His 59-year-old father was also arrested last night as part of the investigation into the February 5 murder of criminal Byrne (33) at the north Dublin hotel.

There are now three men in garda custody being questioned about the Regency Hotel attack, including the suspected gunman in drag who fired the first shots during the boxing weigh-in.

The 24-year-old man was arrested last Friday after a vehicle he was a passenger in was rammed off the road by officers from the Emergency Response Unit. He was still being questioned last night at Ballymun garda station.
