Armed robber threatened garda at gunpoint before being disarmed and arrested

A 39-year-old man is due to appear in court this morning charged in connection with an armed robbery.

The incident took place at a shop on Oxmanstown Road, Dublin 7 before 1:30pm yesterday.

An off duty Garda entered the shop as the armed robbery was in progress.

The officer, a recent graduate from the garda college in Templemore, identified himself  and was then threatened at gunpoint by the raider.

He confronted the thug and successfully disarmed him, before holding him until gardai arrived on the scene.
