Armed man holds up cash-in-transit van at Dublin service station in broad daylight

A man armed with a knife has held up a cash in transit van in Dublin this morning and is believed to have escaped with a cash box.

The incident happened at the Topaz filling station in Ballymun, North Dublin, opposite the IKEA store.

The man, who was disguised, approached the security worker from the van on the forecourt at 9.10am and threatened him before taking the cash box and fleeing the scene.

There were no reports of injuries in the incident and no arrests have yet been made.

It is understood that the cash box is protected with security devices to prevent the money being used if the box is opened.
