34-year-old addict Brendan Boylan sprayed prison officers with his blood when they attempted to confiscate drugs from him.

Boylan of Bangor Road, Crumlin, was brought from Mountjoy prison to the Mater hospital for treatment.

It is believed that the inmate got his hands on drugs after a parcel was passed to him by a visitor.

Reports indicate that Boylan yanked out the iv needle from his arm and sprayed the prison officers with his blood when they attempted to retrieve the contraband from him.

Reports indicate that the depraved lag struggled the entire way back to Mountjoy and assaulted the staff on route.

The two prison officers have since gone off duty and are awaiting tests.

Boylan was jailed for two-and-a-half-years for pulling a rope around a taxi driver’s throat as he was robbed at knifepoint by an accomplice in 2014.
