22-year-old man abducted from his home and blasted in the legs
A 22-year-old Irish man was abducted while on his way to visit his seriously ill father in hospital before being shot in the legs and dumped on a Derry roadside.
A walker found the victim crawling along the Hass Road in Dungiven in a bloodied state at around 8pm last night.
He had a gunshot wound to his leg which is not thought to be life threatening.
Sinn Fein councillor Sean McGlinchey said: “I was on the way to see an constituent and I saw an ambulance, so I stopped and asked the paramedic what was happening.
“He informed me there was a young lad in the back of the ambulance that was shot in the legs and dumped here.
“I asked if I could speak to him and I asked him what type of help he would need.
“He told me he was abducted in Derry out of his home going to visit his ill father in hospital — he (the father) is critically ill on the life support machine.
“He was taken out here in a car and just abducted and shot in the leg and left there.”
It is the second shooting incident in Dungiven recently.
On Wednesday night of last week, a mother and her two young children were left terrified after gunmen fired a number of shots at their house in a quiet residential area.
The woman was inside her home at Ard na Smoll when she answered a knock on the door, only to be confronted by up to four masked gunmen.
She was threatened by the gang before they fired a number of shots into the air.
The woman’s two young children were inside at the time, although neither the woman nor the youngsters were harmed. They have since fled the house.
Police investigating the abduction and shooting are appealing for information.
