Watch a thief hypnotise a shop owner and walk away with a lot of money
A pickpocket who apparently hypnotised his victim in north London is being hunted by police.
The thief took cash from a shopkeeper while his victim "remained motionless and unable to resist the robbery taking place", Scotland Yard said.
Police have released CCTV footage of the crime showing thethief, who claimed his wife was pregnant and needed water, in action.
Detective Sergeant Dave Bullock said: "The victim in this incident said that he was momentarily unaware of what had happened to him.
"The suspect's distraction tactics appeared to have worked as he robbed the victim of cash from his pocket."
The footage of the September 11 incident in Archway Road, Highgate, shows the thiefenter the shop before touching the stomach of the victim - and his own - to imitate his wife's condition. He also touches the victim on the shoulder.
The shopkeeper is seen going completely motionless twice, the second time as the thiefremoves a wad of cash from his pocket as he does nothing to prevent it happening.
It is only as the thief leaves the shop that the victim seems to come round and realise what happened, and is seen starting to go after him.
The thief is described as a 30-35-year-old man of Eastern European appearance, five feet eight inches tall with a slim build and short black hair.
He was wearing dark jeans, a grey polo shirt, and a black bomber jacket with white writing across the upper back below the collar.
