UK police officer stabbed by teen

A police officer was stabbed three times while on duty in east London after being set upon by a group of teenagers in an alleyway, the Metropolitan Police have said.

The assault in Bow happened shortly before 9.30pm on Tuesday in an alleyway near Bow Bells Pub in Bow Road, police said as they appealed for witnesses.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At this early stage, it is not believed that the youths knew that the person they attacked was a police officer, and that they may have been out socialising in the area prior to the attack."

The officer, who is aged in his forties, was taken to an east London hospital and remains in a non-life threatening condition.
