TV shooting suspect pronounced dead
Vester L Flanagan (41), a disgruntled former employee of the WDBJ station where he worked under the name of Bryce Williams, died after shooting himself when cornered by police following a high speed chase.
Sheriff Bill Overton began a press conference this evening saying he had “a sorrowful heart”. He confirmed that the suspect is dead.
"First and foremost at approximately 1.30pm today, the suspect from this incident, this shooting, died at Fairfax [hospital] as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot injury," he said.
Mr Flanagan was identified by police as the gunman who shot and killed two journalists live on air during a breakfast show earlier today.
TV news reporter Alison Parker(24) and cameraman Adam Ward (27) were killed during an interview with a member of the local Chamber of Commerce on the WDBJ channel.
Harrowing footage from the live TV interview shows the moment a reporter conducting an interview and her cameraman were callously targeted.
News channel WDBJ7 have confirmed two of their journalists were involved in the incident, which occurred early this morning in Virginia.
In the shocking clip, a gunman who is out of shot is heard discharging around eight rounds during the live interview at Bridgewater Plaza near Moneta.
Screams are heard as the camera falls to the ground. The shooter can been seen briefly as the camera turns upwards.
