Three arrested after woman stabbed to death in UK
Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman was stabbed to death in the street.
The 27-year-old died after the attack in Stanhope Street, Newcastle, which also left a man with serious injuries.
Northumbria Police said three men have been arrested in connection with the incident on Monday afternoon.
A force spokesman said: "At 3.50pm on Monday, October 17, police received a report from the ambulance service that two people had been taken to hospital after being assaulted in Stanhope Street, in Arthurs Hill.
"They both suffered stab wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment.
"The 25-year-old man remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition at this time, however the 27-year-old woman sadly died as a result of her injuries.
"Three men, aged 22, 25 and 25, have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody."
The spokesman said a section of the street remains closed off for inquiries to take place and extra patrols are being carried out to reassure residents.
Detectives would like to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident and who might have seen or heard anything.
