Teen charged with child abduction after car stolen with baby inside
A teenager in the UK will appear in court charged with child abduction after a car was stolen with two children inside, including an 11-month-old baby.
Martin Cawley, 19, is accused of kidnap, child abduction and aggravated taking and driving away.
The incident occurred after a mother, 27, parked her three-door Vauxhall Astra, leaving her 12-year-old daughter and the baby inside in Kempe Road, Enfield, on July 2.
After the woman left the vehicle a man got in. As he drove off the young girl was able to escape, but the baby remained trapped inside.
The youngster was found a short while later, uninjured, on the doorstep of a house in Guinevere Gardens, Cheshunt.
The car was later found abandoned in Coopers Walk, Cheshunt.
Cawley, of no fixed abode, will appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
