Steve Avery's ex-fiancee Jodi Stachowski has said in a US interview that she believes he is a 'monster' and 'not innocent'.

In an interview with Nancy Grace played on US TV, Stachowski said she is speaking out now because she wanted everyone to hear "the truth" and "what a monster he is, and he's not innocent."

Stachowski featured heavily in the Netflix show, and she and Avery were engaged to be married at the time when he was arrested for the murder of Teresa Halbach.

However, she now claims that she never loved Avery, claiming instead she used extreme measures to get away from him.

"I ate two boxes of rat poison just so I could go the hospital," Stachowski revealed. "And get away from him, and ask them to get the police to help me."

The full interview was broadcast last night and Stachowski also discusses the scene in the documentary where she explained the two calls she had with Avery from prison on the day of the murder.

In the scene in the show Stachowski claimed that Avery sounded normal during the calls.

Now she claims that this was a lie and she said it as she was afraid for her safety. She now claims that Avery did sound 'funny' during those two calls.

She also makes claims about suffering physical violence from Avery and that he made repeated threats to her, including a recent one from prison where he tried to extort money from her.
