27-year-old Jarred Workman turned himself in following almost two weeks on the run after he was discovered hiding out in a 14-year-old girl’s wardrobe.

It is believed that he had been in there for five days.

He has been arrested and charged with 11 counts of statutory rape and five counts of statutory sex offense.

The young girl’s mother was putting some belongings into her daughter’s room when she opened the wardrobe to find a fully grown man lurking therein.

“I was sorta shocked more than anything. I asked him who he was and he said Jarred Workman and he was 19” the mother told reporters.

After giving his real name and a false age, Workman then ran off, but crucially forgot his wallet and mobile phone, which led officers to him.

The girl told police that she and Workman had started speaking online about a month before they met in person and had sparked up an online relationship.

They arranged to meet near her parents’ home in North Carolina.

Investigators say that the girl then invited Workman into her house and he then started to sexually assault her.

“During the day he was either in her closet or in her bedroom, and when she would come home from school or on the weekend or whatever, he would come out on evenings,” Detective Lt. Bill Hamby told NBC news.

Just the fact that he would be that brazen. To come up here and meet a girl online and then stay in her residence not knowing what her parents are or what they are about,’ said Detective Lt.Hamby.

After interviewing the girl, deputies put out a warrant for Workman's arrest.

'I'm uncomfortable in my own home. I'm scared. I can't sleep at night,' the teenager’s mother said

Workman also faces charges in another sex assault case.
